Raydius

DJ Raydius is a junglist and drum & bass selector who cut his teeth in the pirate radio scene of the late 90s. As a resident on Pointblank Radio, Raydius became known for relentless double-drops, exclusive dubplates, sublime track selection, and marathon 2-hour sets that lived in that 160-174 BPM sweet spot. Equally comfortable blending jungle, techstep, rollers, liquid and jump-up, he has earned a reputation for his broad mixing style and ability to read a crowd, often throwing in the occasional excursion into old-school classics that reminds listeners exactly where the music came from. Alongside broadcasting, Raydius wrote the monthly "Bassline" column for Reading-based Blah Blah Magazine from 1997 to 2013. The column covered white labels, rave reports and interviews with producers before they hit the mainstream, the kind of print that got passed around record shops and pinned to bedroom walls. During that time, he interviewed key figures from across the scene, including DJ Lee, Smokey Joe (Smokin Records), Cause 4 Concern, John B, and many more artists, DJs, promoters and industry figures who helped shape the evolution of drum & bass. Deeply embedded in the culture beyond radio and DJing, Raydius also spent time helping out at Menace Records and Wanted Records during the early 2000s, gaining first-hand exposure to the lifeblood of the underground scene. Between record shops, pirate radio, club nights and warehouses, he developed an extensive knowledge of the music and the community that surrounded it. Beyond the decks, Raydius has hands-on experience across many levels of the culture. An experienced producer, event promoter and sound system operator, he has also built some of the most efficient aerials that DIY knowledge can produce. He understands sound system culture from the ground up. His experience isn't limited to playing through sound systems, he's run them, ensuring the bass hits as hard as the music deserves. Whether at intimate parties, underground warehouse sessions or outdoor raves, Raydius has always been as comfortable behind the speaker stacks as behind the turntables. Coming up through pirate radio and grassroots rave culture, Raydius has played many parties and underground events, taking his sound from Brighton to Bracknell, from a field near you to KOKO Camden. Along the way he has promoted events, had many adventures, supported local talent, championed new music and remained an active contributor to the scene he grew up in. Coming up through pirate airwaves, Raydius helped soundtrack an era where the signal was illegal but the music was essential. From jungle and techstep to rollers, liquid and early jump-up, his sets remain rooted in the foundations of the 90s and 00s while always looking forward. Vinyl bag. Dubplates. Record shops. Sound system. Radio mic. That's Raydius.
